Perinatal Depression

The National Perinatal Depression Initiative aims to improve prevention and early detection of antenatal and postnatal depression and provide better support and treatment for expectant and new mothers experiencing depression. For the purposes of this program, the perinatal period is defined as the pregnancy to a year after birth. The initiative is funded by the Department of Health as part of the Access to Allied Psychological Services (ATAPS) component of the Better Outcomes in Mental Health Care Program. Men are also eligible for the program.
